Forget that. How is Skinner now a 3rd liner with plug players. Any chance the Canes move him for some Defensive help?

Skinner was moved to the 3rd line because the Canes were a 2 line team last year, and had no extra scoring from the bottom 6 ,also Muller wasn't impressed with his play at times last year.

Per the comments below, it is more a function of his readiness than ultimate role. He has been skating but has not practiced for real or played in a preseason game in about a week. I would expect he will ultimately be in the lineup (and it could be opening night), but my guess is that he is not on Oct 4.

Gerbe/JStaal/Dwyer has looked really good.

Skinner/JStaal struggled together last year.

The team needs scoring depth.

ahh ok,
then not really a 'healthy scratch"

i always thought he was one of those solid reliable guys, not the sexy name like "letang" or "keith" but very valuable to a team

I think it's also a matter of Skinner not being a good defensive player. Jordan Staal has to deal with the toughest match ups.

That would work except Tlusty has never shown any offense unless he plays with top end talent he just disappears. I guess you could say he can't create offense with equal or less talented players.

I would say that is a lil harsh on Tlustly. I do not think that a line of Skinner-Staal-Semin would be better then Tlustly-Staal-Semin. Tlustly is the one player that found chemistry with E Staal before Semin came in last year. When you plug him in with Semin and E Staal you truly see how much of a complimentary piece he is, always knowing the right places to be and not over handling the puck.

Yes maybe ,but the same could be said for Skinner - Ruutu & Jokinen. The ideal situation Imo not knowing Lindholm's status yet is Bowman on the 1st line & Tlusty on the 3rd line with Skinner/Lindholm with Dvorak/Nash/Dwyer as the 4th line.

Tlusty showed plenty of offensive ability when he played for Kladno during the lockout away from E Staal, but he was also playing with good linemates then. I wouldn't say he disappears when not playing with top end talent, but that when he didn't play with top end talent his role was mainly a defensive one and he did well with that when that was his role. Also part of his chemistry with Staal and Semin is because of his defensive game, which Skinner doesn't have. I was hoping Skinner could be an option on the top line, but I think we've tried Skinner out with E Staal and they didn't seem to have chemistry. Maybe Skinner would work out with E Staal AND Semin though. Who knows

Yup. I really hope he gets a fresh start with you guys. He has always been one of my favorite players. At least we got something out of this instead of losing him to waivers for nothing. And thank God we finally got Welsh off the books. What a waste of money. But who in the world did we get?? I hope he isn't Welsh 2.0.

Tochkin is a pure contract dump in return, played in the ECHL or CHL(central hockey league) I think last season. He has't even played in the AHL yet and was an undrafted rookie signing like Welsh. Both of them seem like they're basically worthless to NHL teams from what I've read.

so are we planning to make a trade since we dumped some salary or was this just a pointless trade

There was a 99% chance that Dalpe would have been picked up off of waivers when being sent down, so JR figured he'd try to get something for him. Plus we unloaded Welsh's stupid contract.

Matt, nice job with everything and the "guesses"!
Think you've got the roster figured out pretty well.
What happens with Lindholm and Murphy is a mystery to me!
Due to the salary dump, i think it's quite possible JR signs another FA, and is rumored to be negotiating with Dvorak! We should see pretty soon, IMO!

Lindholm per Chip Alexanders Twitter account will be in the lineup to start the season ,Murphy will stay awhile with Gleason out ,and only having 7D with him out ,so as of right now JR still needs to add a vet forward who can play top 9 minutes ,so who's left would be Gagne ,and Guillaume Latendresse who's a big forward @26 yrs old 6'2" 240lbs ,and is known by Muller during his days in Montreal ,so we'll see come this week sometime earlier than later I hope.

Tlusty/Staal/Semin were one of the most dominant lines in the league, plus that line needs a good forechecker and Backchecker and Skinner is neither of those. Skinner has a lot of work to do on his game to be a very good NHL player. I think his contract is not that good. I would trade him in a heartbeat for defensive/bottom 6 help if I were the GM.

I wouldn't be all that surprised right now. I think Muller finally has JR and PK on his side and will mold the roster to what he wants. He was able to shed Dalpe, LaRose, Corvo, McBain, Welsh and others and get who HE wants. Have to wonder if Skinner is a Muller guy.

Skinner Imo would be hard to trade for his concussion history in order to get an equal top 6 player(s) back in return ,and that's where the Canes are lacking is top 6-9 depth ,and with Ruutu out JR's in no position to move Skinner without getting 2 quality top 6/9 players(s)
